My latest installment in Omaha Beach location paintings. This one depicts the villa known as "Les Sables d'Or" (The Golden Sand), part of the seaside hamlet "Les Moulins" of Saint Laurent-sur-Mer. It was one of the few houses of Les Moulins that the Germans did not demolish to make way for their fortifications. Instead, they used the house as an observation post, particularly for a small Luftwaffe unit.
The house became part of the small resistance nest "WN66" of "Stützpunkt St. Laurent". In the background left, we see construction on casemates for WN67 (which were never complete). In the background right, we see the MG nests of WN68 on the western side of the valley.
