In the vein of Osprey Publishing, I have started doing art panels to add to my collection of research on the subject 𝙊𝙢𝙖𝙝𝙖 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝.
This panel covers some of the German troops that would have occupied the nest WN60 on the far eastern end of the beach...

This man has the unfortunate job of manning a captured French APX-R turret mounted on a Tobruk fortification. At WN60, this turret was downhill and cut-off from the trench network atop the plateau. The Obergefreiter's uniform is typical for 1944, with M42 tunic and M42 helmet, although he was lucky to receive M1936 litzen collar tabs. The loops on his shoulder straps indicate he is a candidate to be an NCO. Due to the cramped interior of the turret, he has discarded most of his equipment inside the Tobruk entrance.

Not all Germans assigned to the Atlantikwall were young men with state-of-the-art equipment and weaponry. This 40-year-old Grenadier wears a summer Reed Green M42 HBT tunic with no insignia. His trousers are old "oatmeal" HBT trousers with makeshift Reed Green knee patches tucked into standard low boots with gemachen. He wear an M35 helmet that retains the Heer Eagle decal. His rifle is a WWI-era Kar98a. As part of the APX-R crew, his job would be the loader for the turret.

On June 5, WN60's commander Oberfeldwebel Ludwig Pie was transferred to WN62. Therefore, 31-year-old Unteroffizier Alfred Eberhardt took over as the commander of the nest on D-Day. Eberhardt was part of Grenadier.Regiment.726 since 1942 and his troops considered him a very tough man. He wears an old M40 tunic with newer M43 belted trousers and M39 short-shaft marching boots. Carrying 6x30 binoculars, and armed with an MP40 sub-machine gun, he surveys the approaching armada. Once enemy troops are about to land, he will remove his M36 overseas cap and strap on his M35 helmet.
